Martyna Paluchiewicz-Łabaj comes from Katowice, an industrial area of Poland. She expresses herself through paintings, drawings and posters. Black, white and grey are the colours which dominate in her work. Using coal, enamel and pencils she draws whites out of blacks and vice versa, continually putting layers on top of each other. There are no borders between paintings and drawings, one sinks into the other. Martyna says that her multilayer process is like building up living tissue to create physical beings, which is a common theme in her works. Franciszek Starowiejski, Lex Drewiński, Eidrigevičius Stasys and Louise Bourgeois have had the biggest influence on her.
